HI Beautiful People
Welcome to my second post of the mini series but my first Motivational Monday.
This post is going to address the importance of lists in anyone's life especially if they are trying to get motivated and organised. It is going to provide you with three different list types that I have tried and tested and loved. It will also show you how to implement these list into your daily doings.
First a back story.
When I first started getting organised it really was my main goal to get my life on track, have a certain idea of things I wanted to achieve in my day to day life, start to plan bigger goals and overall fill my life with as much happiness and positivity as I possibly could. I started reading, listening to podcast and watching Youtube videos. Taking in all this content it became very clear to my that the use of lists and using lists effectively was one of the main tools that all these people were using to achieve not only their daily goals but also their big goals.
Instead of me linking all these different types of content for you to explore yourselves I thought that it would be handy if I showed you the types of lists that I use, how I use and some tips and tricks around these lists.
If you are ready to literally sort your shit out and start realising the power of lists then keep on reading because I am about to blow your mind.
The Types of Lists I Use
To Do/ Must Do
The To Do/ Must Do was the very first example of effective list making and achieving that I ever came across. It takes the simplified version of list making (we all know how to make lists) and rearranges it so that the most crucial element are at the top and noted for you to see. Therefore you understand now the difference between what is a 'to do' and what it a 'must do'.
To put it simply.
1. Write your to do list.
(When using this form, I personally do mine weekly.)
2. Determine what is a to do and then determine what is a MUST DO
(Using a time frame for when 'to do's' must be done allows for you to move them closer to a must do or further down the list.)
3. Re-write your list with your Must Do at the top.
4. Complete the list.
Simples.
Here is an example of changing your list from a to do to a must do.
This is a simple To Do list.
Clearly states the what you need to remember to do.
Here is a Must Do list.
The To Do List has been re-written to show the priority of the items.
The Power List
The Power List came to me in the form of two different podcasts and ever since I heard about it I have been implementing it and it has changed the way I view my day. Essentially the idea is too create a minimal lists of 5 things that you need to achieve the day, when you have achieved each one of those things you cross them off the list until all are crossed off then you have won the day. The idea is that you could have all those things crossed of in the early hours of the day and the you have a free day to yourself because you have done whats need to be done however what is put on the power list is not things that you will already do or mundane tasks, it is stuff that you need to achieve.
To put it simply.
1. Write down 5 things that you need to do in the day to 'win' the day.
(I have been using the power list as a tool to create habits, I don't use it for things that I need to remember to do only for things that are crucial to being done that day.)
2. Do those five things.
3. Cross them off.
4. Once all crossed off put a W on the page.
5. You have WON the day.
Here is an example.
An example of a power list, very simple things that need to get done to ensure that I win the day.
You can see how empowering it is to cross the items of daily and place a W on the page.
There you have it two examples of lists that I have personally tried and tested and that I love to use. If you are competitive especially with yourself then you will love the Power List but if you are looking for a way to make sure that you remember to do all your task and put them into a timeline perspective then the Must Do is for you. Or if you become obsessed with lists then you will end up like me and doing both.
Hope this fills you with some Motivation on this fine Monday.
