Sunday Sitdown

Hi There!

It is Monday and I am back!

After my first post about the importance of a morning routine which you can find here:

Shameless self-plug, I know.

After reaching the most views I have gotten so far on a blog post I wanted to follow that up with another routine that has drastically changed my life and I am hoping that by sharing it has the potential to change yours.

Drummmmmm rolllllll please.

Sunday Sitdown

Obviously if you have been reading my blog posts you would know by now that I love a good story and this blog is no different so buckle in and here we go.

For the past 6 years of my life I have worked either shift or rotating roster jobs, and this has been the biggest influence in the negative mindset that I have no life and with rotating rosters there is no way that I can ever have any sort of routine or life.

However I was wrong.

If you work a rotating roster and are feeling the same trust I have been where you are and if you are blessed with working a 9-5 Monday to Friday then I am sure you will actually struggle to understand where I come from but you will hopefully be able to relate to the importance of a Sunday Sitdown.

Stepping back for a hot second here I just wanted to touch on the negative mindset that I was in that I didn't even realise I was in. It is crazy because I love my job and I have never been phased by the hours or days that I work and it wasn't until I started down this 'sort ya shit out' path that I even realised I was in such a negative mindset and that there was really no reason to be.

I used to believe that because I was working different days every week and I never knew what my week would bring me that there was really no reason to organise my life or set in any sort of routine because I never knew what I was doing at work.

This mindset was wrong and also made it really hard to get my life together and have even some sort of organisational tools in place, even the bare minimum.

Stepping forward now, it is crazy to think that I am even the type of person that sits down and takes time out of my own life to do this let alone be the person that looks forward to these moments on Sunday and now takes great pride in an organised week.

I knew in my own personal self that I was not getting the most out of myself or my week this past few years and I really need to change that, so sith this new mindset that 2019 bought along also came what I like to call a Sunday Sitdown.

What is a Sunday Sitdown?

A Sunday Sitdown is where you take 15 - 20 minutes every Sunday night to sit down with yourself and plan the coming week. It is where you can clear your mind and make sure that you are heading into an organised week and that you are able to get the most out of your week.

How do I achieve a successful Sunday Sitdown?

First step, alot yourself some time and literally sit down on a Sunday. Have your diary or your planner in front of you and be ready and in the right mindset to organise your life.

It would be best to get a planner or a diary if you do not already have one and actually use it.

Put in your work days first.

Write in all the days that you work and for how long.

Put in your weekends! YAY

We all have different days that fall into our 'weekends' so being able to see what your days are allows for you to plan in the things that you need to get done on those days.

Add your non negotiables.

These are the items that you have to get done every week that isn't work. This can include things like the gym or classes you are going to. It can also . include when you are going to grocery shop or other similar activities.

Add in irregularities throughout the week.

This includes weekly one offs that you don’t do every week. This could be doctors appointments or meet up with friends.

Also another little factor that is not really a step but that I have found crucial to my own sanity and that is pencil in some 'me time'. This is where you are prepared to sit aside and really do something for yourself. This has been really helpful with my own personal growth and I know that it has the potential to keep growing as well.

There you have it.

You have now successfully scheduled your week and finished your Sunday Sitdown.

That was easy? Right?

Yes it was, now the most crucial part:

DO IT.

The only way a Sunday Sit-Down can be successful in planning and organising a week is if you actually go through with it. By doing what you have actually set out to do within your week will leave you feeling accomplished and also help you to realise that no matter where or when you work you are always able to achieve what you set your mind too.
