Hello, hi there, we are at week 3.
And you thought you were scared in week 2, well strap in folks because it is a roller coaster from here on out.
Before we get into this whole “week 3” situation I want you to remember back to when you were little and you used to read those books about how you could pick your own path because that’s what I want you to do here.
PATH A
You’ve been coasting along, have not watched any lectures or taken down any notes. You’ve got plenty of time and you know you got a day of in week 4 coming up that you have dedicated to Uni so you’ll do it all then. It’s not that much.
PATH B
You are a little bit stressed, you have been staying on top on your lectures you have been taking notes and you even did all of your black board postings. You have seen in the unit information guide that you have an assignment coming up and you really don’t know what to do. But you are ready with your content and keen to get smashed into it.
WHAT DID YOU PICK? WHO DO YOU RELATE TO?
If you picked path A. STOP. JUST STOP. I actually give you permission to stop reading this blog and to take even just an hour to have a look around your blackboard and to suss what it is that your doing, make sure you even know exactly what it is your studying. This is week 3 for goodness sake. You will have a lot of content to catch up on week 4 and that is if you even do it. I am sure deep down what your really thinking is, ‘I’ll save that all for study week’.
If you picked path B. Congratulations, you have advanced onto the second round and have been given permission to continue to read this blog and hopefully either feel inspired to study or pick up some more trick to getting through the moderate to even harder weeks.
Now back to week 3 If you have been coasting along and even just doing the bare minimum for your classes trust me when I say you are more ahead than you think. So if you are currently looking at your UIG and thinking to yourself what is it exactly that this assignment wants from me then I have a few tips for how you can tackle this week.
Prepare for some extra study.
The main thing I have learnt from University is that ‘doing your assignment does not count as study’. Now you can tackle this in one of two ways. You can do all your recommended study and then go I have to set aside an extra hour each day to work on my assignment. Or you can smash at your assignment (don’t recommend) and then sit down towards the end of the week and do your unit content (also don’t recommend). Now I not only feel like I can speak from experience but I know that I can. I know I said you have two options but in the reality of Uni and “wanting to do well” you only have one option. THE FIRST ONE Doing your unit content first actually provides some real benefits, the content normally gives options, answers or examples to the assignment so that you are better prepared for when you are tackling it so if that doesn’t motivate you enough to do it then hopefully this next one will. If you do your unit content first and get it done, you still need to do your assignment so no matter what you still end up doing it because simply put ‘it has to get done’.
Stop and take a breath.
Now my next piece of advice comes of the back of doing your unit content. After you have finished doing your unit content. Stop. Take a breath. I would highly suggest even getting up out of your chair, maybe having a snack and moving all your other un relevant to this assignment work out of the way so that you have a clear focus for just your assignment. Read through the assignment details first and go and find all the relevant documentation for this assignment before you start.
Just start.
I know this may seem silly to even say, but for us procrastinators (mainly looking at me, I am literally writing this blog rather than studying) it is a little hard to get over that first hurdle. So just START. Start reading, start writing, start jotting down ideas because you know that once you start and the informative juices are flowing out if you it ya very easy to pour a whole glass.
So that is pretty much all from me for this week.
Just start, whether it be your assignment or whether it be you actual content looking at you path A the main thing is that you start and you get a handle on what it is that need to do and what can be expected so that when that due date rocks around you are ready to hand in your best attempt at your assignment.
