Okay, so I love gifts.
But more importantly I love gifting.
I gift.
And I gift.
Andddddd I gift.
I'm a gifter!
I literally just can not stop. I swear as soon as I see something that I know someone else would like I just have to buy it for them.
So if I haven't said it enough already, Christmas time is one of my most favourite times of the year.
It is when I can come alive with all of my gifting options and variety's. It is when I can get my artist on and wrap my presents exactly how I have been planning all year, I only started my stalking on Pinterest in March and it is when I can show people how effortless it is for me to know them and what the are interested in.
I just love gifting, but for someone who claims to love it so much I really have struggled the last few years with what to get people, the amount of money I can spend or should spend, the amount of gifts I get the important people and who classifies as important enough to gift.
So it is with these thoughts that I have decided to go ahead and start my latest blog.
What do I get you?
The ultimate question, whether you have been buying Christmas presents for this person most of your life or they're someone new who has just entered but is on a present giving level (we go into that later) it is always so hard to get to the silly season and ultimate think of what to get them. That is why I started making lists.
**I can't take all the credit for this but it has really changed my life and I am forever grateful so I wanted to share it with you.
L I S T S
At the beginning of each year, I head to my notes on my phone and I type in the names of all the important people that will still be around at Christmas time and I start to make a list of things that I know they would like come Christmas time. As soon as I am having a conversation with the important people and they start to mention "oh I like that" or "oh that's nice" I add it to the list under their name. I also use that same list for birthdays. I then mark off what I have gotten them throughout the year and then I know that come Christmas time I can start to buy them things that I know that they would want. So that solves my first problem my second however is a little tricky.
How much money do I spend?
This one is the hardest and trickiest situation that I swear I have come across. How much money does anyone ever really spend. But I am going to put it simply.
Spend what you want.
Buy them what you want.
You shouldn't be buying people, especially the important people in your life things in hope that they spend the same amount of money on you.
Are you important enough for a gift?
I swear there is no real way to word this nicely. So I am just being blunt. But are you important enough to me for me to buy you a gift. I feel like I should just get this out there before I continue on with this one.
You should never buy people a gift in hope that they would buy you one back.
So with that out of the way you can really focus now on are you important enough to me for a gift at Christmas time. I've always valued Christmas and used it as a time to really show the people who mean something to me, my love and appreciation through gift giving. So I am going to break it down for ya.
If they are immediate family that you keep in contact of on a regular basis - YES
If they are co workers that you do not see outside work - NO
In all serious though I am not trying to group everyone up but I always feel that people who you want to spend your time with are the people you should want to gift. Whether that be via a secrecy Santa type situation or even if that just means catching up for some wine and cheese on a chill afternoon. The people who matter are the people who are important enough for a gift whether it be a present or your presence.
