Hi there!
I am assuming that you clicked on this link either from my continuous posting to my Instagram story about it or you seen the title and like me you are taking a long hard look at yourself and knowing that you need to change the way you approach the day and you need to change the way you motivate yourself.
If it the second reason that has driven, you here then I just want to let you know that you are not alone.
At the beginning of the year, I took a moment where I sat down, stared at myself in the mirror and had a really long, hard and tough conversation with myself that addressed a lot of areas that I was unhappy about and then started to look at the way that I could move forward.
It was here that the conversation took a turn and I really started to focus heavily on the word, my word of the year: motivation.
This was driven by the phrase you need to change. Not you want to change but that you need to change.
It was with this that I started my journey and now six months in I did not think that it was even possible to be where I am right now or to be trying the new types of things I am doing, to be waking up at the time I wake up, to even sit here and be writing these blogs. This is the happiest I have felt in years and honestly I had no idea that this could even be reached over a year ago.
If you feel like you are staring down the same path and you really do not know where to start then you have come to the right place.
When I first started this journey, I didn’t realise at the time that adopting this step permanently into my life was really the pivotal point to all this change that has come about in my life. However it was and now looking back six months and really reflecting I know that I would not be here if I had not realised the importance of a morning routine.
The Importance of a Morning Routine
Most of us have a morning routine that starts a little something like get up, check your socials, have a shower and get ready for the day ahead we all try to smash in some breakfast as we are running out the door or like the old me, we skip breakfast completely for a coffee as we do a drive thru on our way to work.
If this sounds like you then you are not wrong when you say that you are doing a morning routine and you are not alone in this at all.
Bare with me though because I hate to break it to you but this is not a very good morning routine at all.
Creating a positive morning routine is not only motivating but also grounding and is the first step to really pulling your shit together.
Follow along here and I will tell you exactly where I started and what I do.
Workout your morning essentials.
The first thing I did was workout how long it takes me to get ready.
This really only includes the bare minimum of tasks that you need to do each morning to be ready for your day. Eat, shower, makeup, get dressed, pack your bag and walk out the door.
These are the daily necessities.
Now with this step you really have to be completely honest with yourself and if you do not know how long it takes yourself to get ready take a day where you don’t have a time constraint to be somewhere (like work) and really time how long it takes you to do the simple tasks that you need to do every morning.
WAKE UP EARLIER
Now this breaks the heart of the old version of me just a tad but the most crucial part to having an influential morning routine is waking up earlier.
Whether that be by 30 mins or 60 mins (I personally do 60 mins). The earlier you wake up the more you can achieve with your day. This is where you really get yourself into the right mindset to reach your potential for the day.
Sidenote: There are going to be mornings where it is damn near impossible to get out of bed and you are allowed to have those mornings but being able to set a routine and be disciplined with yourself is really where progress starts to come in. Having one a month is fine.
Plan your time.
Workout what it is in the mornings that is going to put you in the right mindset. Some of the things you could incorporate into your morning routine include:
Plan the day.
Set your to do list.
Meditate.
Exercise.
Drink tea and reflect.
All of the things listed are all practices that I have actually personally added to my own life and I can do most of them in my own personal mornings. To have a highly effective morning routine it would be best to incorporate some of these things into your morning time before your day starts.
Creating a personalised morning routine that works best for you allow you to be more organised as a person, it allows for personal growth and reflection and also will help you on this path of really pulling your shit together.
The moment you are able to be disciplined and incorporate routine in your life you will start to see change.
If you have been struggling or personally feeling like you are stuck in a rut, then this is your sign.
Set yourself a morning routine, wake up a little earlier and start the day in the right mindset ready to smash it.
You will thank yourself later.
Ebony.
