The Perfect Day for a Break Up

Imagine waking up early hours of February 14th, your man rolls over and whispers so sweetly in your ear 'I love you' and finishes it off with the sweetest little kiss upon your lips.

You remember that it is Valentine's Day and you can't wait to see what he has in store for the night.

But for now you roll over and spread out in your bed. Yeah you love him but not nearly as much as those last few hours in bed alone sleeping in his warmth and smell after he has gone to work.

The day is like any other, your at work he is at work and the hours tick by until it is finally home time and you know that you beat him home by 30 minutes.

You let yourself into his place and his room, on the bed you have set up your little display or love and affection which mainly consists of some new Calvin Klein underwear and the latest perfume. You can't wait to wrap your arms around him tonight and then as soon as you get home from dinner your legs too.

You hear the door open and your heart flutters, yes it is Valentines Day but it really hasn't changed the amount of love you have for this man. Honestly your future husband if your going off the way you both feel now.

You see the handle to his bedroom door turn and the excitement of him coming in is almost unbearable. In walks his work boots and where his face should be is covered by a dozen roses.

You scream in excitement and down lowers the roses you run in for the kiss and realise that there is something in between his lips. Not the pandora bag with the love heart charm you had been dropping very subtle hints for everyday for the last two weeks.

Dinner rolls around and it's just the two of curled up enjoying each other's company and being madly in love.

The night finished how it started perfect and in bed together and just like you imagined your legs are now wrapped around him and there is no where else you would rather be.

N O W I M A G I NE

Waking up to the slam of a bedroom door and the distant start of a car engine. You can only assume that it is your man leaving for work after not even saying goodbye to you.

Yeah you have been together for over a year but still you crave for the times when he would kiss you on the lips and slither out of bed another long hard day at work for him and your work day not starting for another four hours.

You are startled awake by your own alarm three hours later and the first thing you do is roll over and check your phone. Nope nothing from him not unusual but surely today of all days it wouldn't cost him an extra minute to tell you he 'loves ya'.

You send it instead 'I love you babe, have a good Valentines Day. I'll see you tonight.

You head to work.

On your break, you check your phone.

Nothing.

You finish your day, you check your phone.

Still nothing.

You need to race home to beat him and set up your sneaky little presents even though he told you not to get anything.

His exact words to you for the last month had been

You don't need a day to tell your girlfriend you love them, you should tell them that everyday, you should act no different.

Yet how has it been a day and no 'I love you' text. . . . .

A C T U A L L Y

. . . . How has it been over two months and you can't even remember the last time he told you that he loves you.

Anyway you hold on hope and you hear that door open, in walks the damn love of your life.

Trailing behind him is all the anger and frustration that he has been holding onto now heightened by the thought of you wanting to celebrate Valentine's Day.

His face creases.

The air is full with a fight.

You're exhausted.

He is exhausted.

Before you even begin to think.

I want to break up.

Three hours of screaming at each other.

One awkward meal shared.

Two presents thrown at each other.

Four door slams.

Two years of relationship ended.

One final goodbye.

Now if you read this believing that the first one happened to me.

First of all who are you?

And second of all who the f*ck do you think you are.

But if you read this all the way through and wondered to yourself surely that is not some made up dramatic version of a night. Surely that has never happened to somebody. Surely that is an exaggeration.

THEN YOU WOULD BE ABSOLUTELY WRONG

Scenario B is probably the highly edited and shortened version of one of the worst nights that has happened to me with an apparent love of my life.

And that night just happened to fall on Valentines Day.

So there you have it my Valentines Break Up

* This night happened to me a very long time ago and although I have well and truly moved on and could never see myself accepting or allowing that to ever happen to me again, I completely understand that there are still some of us who are in relationships like that. So if you find yourself going through something similar on any night of the week my inbox is always open.
